Tiradentes, a charming historic city in Minas Gerais, Brazil, was founded around 1702 after gold was discovered in the region. It takes its name from Joaquim José da Silva Xavier - better known as Tiradentes - one of the key figures in the Conjuração Mineira, a movement for Brazilian independence. Known for its rich Baroque heritage, Tiradentes is home to beautifully preserved colonial houses that have been declared historical landmarks. Among its architectural treasures, the Church of Santo Antônio stands out with its striking rococo portal, masterfully carved in stone by the renowned sculptor Antônio Francisco Lisboa, known as Aleijadinho.
